Authors Abstract
Melvin Alexander The year of 2024 marks the 100th anniversary when Walter Shewhart introduced Statistical Quality Control Charting methods for monitoring various processes such as: manufacturing operations, industrial production, hospital epidemiology, and healthcare-outcome surveillance. Numerous control charts have been developed since. This presentation applies two special Shewhart-type (SPC) control charts, G- and T- charts, that monitors time-between-event (or rare event) situations. The example in this presentation monitors discharged patients who were admitted due to different COVID-19 variants of concern from March, 2021 through December, 2023. I will review background and situations where and how these charts are used, review the basics for their construction, and analyze data using the COVID-19 hospitalization discharge example. I will produce charts using JMP® and R Integration that compare and contrast both tools.
