Abstract: Strategic Vision software from SAS Institute provides an extensive, interactive methodology for creating balanced scorecards as a way of measuring performance within organizations. A balanced scorecard also allows for effective communication of strategy as well as performance information throughout an organization. This paper examines ways of implementing a balanced scorecard approach within healthcare organizations. Examples and suggestions are given to show how balanced scorecards might be deployed in suc h environments.

Biography:
After more than 11 years with SAS Institute in the Professional Services and Marketing Departments, Ben Cochran left to start his own consulting and SAS Training business in the fall of 1996 - The Bedford Group. He is a SAS Institute Alliance Partner. He h as extensive expertise with SAS/EIS in building front-end menuing systems and lots of experience in training users in the areas of Data step applications, data management, report writing, programming, application development, SAS/EIS, and other topics. Whi le at The Bedford Group, he has managed projects in: -SAS/AF and Data Warehousing for a large mining company, -Database Marketing for a national retail bookstore chain. This has evolved into a Customer Relationship Management Project where we developed mo dels to track response rates and thereby focus on mailing to customers who are most likely to respond to mailings. Another project with this client involved developing a balanced scorecard application. -the financial, medical, and travel industries.
