Abstract: Users of SAS/ACCESS(R) software will realize appreciable performance improvements in the Version 9 release of SAS. The new ability to create and manage threaded reads against DBMS data results in 40 percent faster processing. SQL optimization increases the amount of processing time that can occur directly on the DBMS server. Sending 'smarter' SQL to the DBMS server helps to avoid massive data transfer from the server to SAS and has resulted in sizeable performance gains. DBMS optimizations are extended thro ugh the use of efficient SQL generation and/or DBMS utilities. This talk describes these features and their impact on performance as well as other new features in SAS/ACCESS software. Providing a better performing interface to your DBMS data results in a b etter foundation for your data warehouse and the subsequent data mining, data analysis, and data presentation you will do with SAS software.
