Abstract: Many operations now store data in relational databases. You may want to use SAS to access and update information in SQL Server or other SQL-based systems. We have used SAS to manage and utilize project data in relational databases for a longitudinal survey . The survey applications use SAS through PROC SQL to read data from an existing SQL Server database or SAS macro language to update or insert data into SQL Server tables. The data-loading process also uses SAS formats and functions to clean data, which en sures compatibility with later SQL queries. We will provide examples of SAS code that perform these tasks.
